If we don't have faith what do we have?

Well the 25th birthday came and went here in wonderland, and now the 26th birthday is quickly approaching! So much has changed and happened since I last posted. My father, who is one of the biggest role models in my life (next to my mother), had his cancer return after 9 months of being cancer free. This has put a huge stress on my family since we discovered in 2013 that he had cancer, luckily they caught it early and could treat it with radiation. As of yesterday I found out that he was cancer free again, and I hope it stays this way for a long time now.

My best friend recently got engaged, and I am so happy for her and her soon to be husband, they fit so very well together and are so happy. She really needs this in her life right now, because she has gone through so much in her lifetime, and I couldn't think of anything better for her. However this same friend seems to word about me more now that she is engaged, you see I am currently not in a relationship with anyone, and am quite content. My friend doesn't understand why and how I could be content with my single girl status, considering she has always been one who isn't happy unless she is in a relationship. Nevertheless she is still my best friend, and I am very excited for her.

Having my friend worrying about my relationship status however has got me thinking, are we all so focused on finding someone that we lose pieces of who we really are in the process? Society pushes the idea that the only way to truly being happy is having a job, finding your true love, getting married, and living happily ever after, and doing all of this as soon as possible. Frankly I don't see the appeal, now don't get me wrong I do plan on getting married one day to the right person, but why should I have to rush it? I am very happy being on my own right now, and there is some advantages to it! I can do what I like when I want, I don't need to answer to someone, I can get all of my weird phases out of the way before I end up living with someone, and best of all I am my own boss. Now I am sure some of you are thinking, "wow well if you have it all figured out why don't you just stay that way for the rest of your life?". For starters I do NOT like being alone, it is one of my biggest fears that it will happen to me, secondly I am just not ready to be in a relationshi[ with someone like that. There is still so much more that I need to do with my life, like traveling, and becoming a better teacher. There will be a time when I am ready for something and when I am I am confident that I will find someone just for me.

I like to think that my whole life is based off of having faith, because thats how I was raised living by faith and knowing that God is good and his love encompasses all of us. So for today I leave you with this verse that resonates throughout my life. "For we walk by faith, and not by sight" 2Corinthians 5:7
